In this book review rubric we will explain how to write a book review. When the time comes to look for a book review on the internet, it's pretty easy to find one. But it is also easy to base a book review on your personal opinion. It is OK to give your opinion about a book, but a good and objective book review should be the object of a deepest research by the reviewer. In fact, the more profound of researches are required.
This is true in order to write a book review and true for any other types of review.
That is why it's important to remember that reviewing a book is more than saying if you liked the book or not. You have to explain why you liked or did not like it. A book review is not a resume of the content of that book.
Here are some general questions you should ask yourself to properly review a book:
-
Why was this book written? In other words, what were the intentions of the author? Was it to inform? To persuade? Was it to teach? Or was it to entertain?
-
On what perspective was this book written? For example: when was this book written? Was this book written during the 1st World War? All this could have influenced the perspective of the author and the whole story.
-
Of course, you need to ask yourself what type/genre of book is it. Is it a novel? a science-fiction?
-
You also have to say if the book influenced you in any way, and explain if it is the case.
-
If you have to recommend this book to other writers and readers, what could you say to encourage them in reading the book?
-
It is also essential to know a little about the author. (Is he popular? What kind of book he has written? Has he won some prizes? etc.)
