The Power of Writing – The Power of Writers

Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.” - Pearl Strachan Hurd

Officialy there are three types of political power: the executive power, the legislative and the judiciary. Don't worry, I am not going to give you a lesson in politics. All this to say that, there is a 4th and non-official type of power that can be called the “mediatic power” or the power of the media.

You know that FoxNews is not CNN when you listen and pay attention to these two channels and know that they are defending a different political group, for example.

That being said, the writer has a power with his writing too. The mediatic power is not just on TV, but through writings, such as online magazines, online journals, bloggers, etc. For example, can you imagine J.K. Rowling writing about you on her website and telling the world how great of a person you are? Or how bad of a person you are? Can you imagine the impact of this? Of course, you will gain popularity so fast that you won't even believe it!

But I am not saying that a writer should first be popular in order for his writings to have an impact (power). Let's say, for example that you own a popular blog, a popular page on Facebook, or working for an online magazine, you can easily feel that whatever you say is crucial and that it might influence many people.

That is why you should be careful with whatever you are writing, especially if you are popular or if you know that many people are going to access your writings.

The power of writing is incontestable, undeniable. Know that, as a writer, you are powerful and can change the world... Use that power intelligently and happy writing.
