What Is The Writer's Block? How To Get Rid of The Writer's Block?

The “syndrome de la page blanche” for “the blank page syndrome” in english or the “writer's block” is a very recurring problem among writers of any experience, and anyone who had to write something for school knows what we are talking about. When experiencing this, the writers find themselves in a situation where they want to write, but are hesitating on whether or not this is what should be written. If it happens constantly, all this can ultimately lead to the loss of confidence by the writer and even to a depression.

What to do in front of this blank page, you might ask yourself in these situations. Should you wait a little bit until you get more inspirations and then try again later? Should you make yourself some hot tea or hot chocolate to make you feel good and then try again and see if it works? Or should you invoke the “gods and goddess of the writing inspiration” from an unreleased Harry Potter's spells book?

More you ask yourself questions about what you should do in front of a blank page and more these questions are going to get insane. Ultimately, this will result in an abandon by the writer to try again later.

The “writer's block” syndrome is sometimes due to a strong desire of perfection. In fact, these writers want to be perfect in whatever they are about to write. This makes them ignore any idea that will come in their mind, as they are disregarded because they are seen as “not good enough” or “not perfect enough”.

The “writer's block” can also happen when the writer had put one or some of his character(s) in a very difficult situation and does not know how to get them out of this situation. The writer is then blocked just like his characters and can't find a way to get them out of an extremely difficult situation in the story.

Fortunately, we have the best advice for you in these situations: just write...

The problem is that if you are experiencing a “writer's block,” it's because you think too much and try to be perfect and get it all good in your first try. You should not do that. You should, instead, let it go and write. Whatever comes in your mind, no matter how insane it might be for you, needs to be written when you are experiencing the syndrome of the blank page.

We are not saying that whatever you will write are necessarily going to be used in your text for later. You might even have to erase all this, but writing whatever comes in your mind is the solution to get back the inspiration.

When you will start doing this, it might still be hard for you to write your first sentences, but after it will all go by itself. It will be easy for you to write as never before. You will feel proud of what you have accomplished which will result in giving you more confidence in overcoming the “writer's block”.

So again, don't panic in front of a blank page and tell yourself that there is no need to be perfect and good at everything. As the American Poet William Stanford said, “I never get writer’s block. When I get stuck, I just lower my standards.
You just need to let it go and write whatever comes in your mind. Just write and you will see that your ideas and inspirations are slowly going to “slide out” and connect to your pencil just like magic... You will feel the magic and feel proud, happy and feel that you have the capacity to write anything!

Just let it go and write!
